About the High School Basketball League Program
Rec and Ed is again offering it’s ever popular high school basketball program this Winter.
This year Rec & Ed will be forming three leagues:
- Boys 9th/10th grade league is for teams consisting of boys currently enrolled in the 9th and 10th grades in area high schools.
- Boys 11th/12th grade league is open for teams consisting of boys currently enrolled in the 11th and 12th grades in area high schools.
- Girls league is for teams consisting of girls currently enrolled in the 9th/10th and 11th/12th grades in area high schools.
All games are played on Sunday afternoons in local middle and high school gyms. The season will begin on Sunday, January 15th, and will run until the end of March.
Every student plays as there are no tryouts or cuts.
Winter High School Basketball is open to students who are in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the 2011-2012 school year. Separate basketball leagues are created for grade for boys and girls. We also have separate leagues for 9th/10th graders and 11th/12th graders.
The season is approximately 10-11 weeks.

Games (back to top) Games are scheduled on Sundays beginning January 15, 2012. Game times will be 12 Noon, 1:15 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:45 PM, 5:00 pm, and 6:15 PM. Later game times may be used depending on league size.
Tentatively games will be placed at Forsythe Middle School, Pioneer High School, or Clague Middle School.
You will receive a schedule of games and locations from your head coach.

Trophies All league champions will receive sponsor and individual trophies. |
Practice Time Procedures -Practice times are available for basketball teams that are participating in the program. -A written request form, along with your league’s choices for practice times, will be enclosed in the coach’s packet that will be distributed at team registration. -Practice time assignment will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Before access to gyms is granted, teams must have received written confirmation of their request. -There will be no charge for these practice times. -Practice times may be cancelled due to other school functions or weather. -Because of the limited amount of gym space, these cancelled practice times will not be rescheduled. |

Fees (back to top) Team Registration (register November 1 - December 2nd) *Sponsor Fee $75 (due Nov. 1 through Dec. 2nd) Resident Player Fee $88 (due no later than Jan. 10th with player contracts) Non-resident Player Fee $98 (due no later than Jan. 10th with player contracts)
Participants not residing within the Ann Arbor Public School District are considered non-resident and must pay the respective non-resident fee.
*Sponsor fee is due at team registration (November 1-December 2nd). The sponsor fee is the initial fee paid by all teams at registration to reserve their spot in the league. All teams pay both the sponsor fee and the player fees, regardless of whether or not a team has a sponsor.
Payment Sponsor fees and player fees may be paid for with cash, certified check, credit card (American Express, Mastercard or Visa), money order or a personal check from the team coach only. The department will also accept checks from local businesses, major corporations or non-profit organizations. Please make all checks payable to Ann Arbor Public Schools or AAPS. Corporate Credit Cards will only be accepted with prior approval from the Finance Secretary (734-994-2300 ext. 53212).
A personal check will only be accepted from the team coach whose name appears on the team registration form. No personal checks will be accepted from other team members. A $50.00 re-entry fee for any NSF check(s) will be charged along with a “cash only” resubmittance of the sponsor and/or the player fee(s).
Late Fees Player contracts (signed by player), fees and rosters are due no later than Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at Rec & Ed, 1530 Eisenhower Place. Any contract submitted after January 10th will be charged a $2.00 late fee per contract. Late fees are due at the time of submittal. Players’ fees cannot be transferred from one player to another.
Scholarships Fee waivers are available to residents of the Ann Arbor school district in need of financial assistance. A current approved scholarship must be on file for your child’s registration to be processed. Please apply at least two weeks prior to the registration period to avoid delays as scholarships applications take 5 – 7 days to process. Refund Policy For complete information on the Rec & Ed refund policy please visit: ww.aaps.k12.mi.us/reced.catalog/refund_policies A. Sponsor fee refund requests that are submitted to the office up to two weeks before your league’s first scheduled game will be subjected to a $10.00 service charge. B. Sponsor fee refund requests that are submitted to the office within two weeks but more than one week before your league’s first scheduled game will be subjected to a service charge of 50% of the sponsor fee. C. Sponsor fee refund requests that are submitted to the office within seven full calendar days of your league’s first scheduled game will forfeit their entire sponsor fee. D. Player Fee Refund Requests Player fee refund requests that are submitted before your team’s first scheduled game will be subjected to a $10.00 service fee (Ann Arbor Public School Policy). Player fees cannot be transferred from one player to another. E. No fees, sponsor or player will be refunded after your team’s first scheduled game.

Player Roster Limit (back to top) Team rosters must consist of no less than five (5) or more than fifteen (15) players per at any point in the season.

Player Eligibility 9th/10th Grade League 1. Players must be currently enrolled in the ninth or tenth grade to participate in the league. 2. Members of high school basketball teams cannot participate in the Rec & ed Program anytime during their high school basketball season. 11th/12th Grade League 1. Teams Looking for a Player In the event a team is in need of a player or players to fill their roster, the manager or a team representative may call the Rec & Ed Office at 994-2300, ext. 53225 to request that a list of players seeking a team be sent to them. Players Looking for a Team In the event an individual player is looking for a team, the individual may call the Rec & Ed Office at 994-2300, ext. 53225 to request that their name be put on a list of interested players. The individual player may also request that a list of other players seeking a team be sent to them. Then they may contact players as they wish. |
Coaches/Managers All teams MUST have a coach/manager who is at least eighteen years of age. This coach/manager will not be allowed to play and must be at all league games and team practices. Failure to have a coach present will result in forfeiture of game(s). |
League Rules/National Federation Rules The Community Education and Recreation High School Basketball program will be governed by the National Federation of State High School Association 2011-2012 Basketball Rules with the exception in cases where the Community Education & Recreation League Rules override state rules. Every team will be receiving a 2011-12 Rule Book and a set of league rules at team registration. Coaches are encouraged to familiarize themselves with both. |
Official Timer/Official Scorer Community Education & Recreation will provide a scorer and a timer for each league game |
Uniforms (back to top) Rec & Ed uniform shirts are required and are included as part of the sponsor fee. the Rec & Ed office will provide each team with shirts. No team within a given division will be allowed to have shirts of a similar color. Team Coaches sign up for a shirt color at team registration. During games and practices, all jewelry, such as rings, watches, bracelets (including friendship), earrings of any kind (including starters), chains or necklaces are illegal. Any player who fails to remove his or her jewelry may not participate until it is removed. |
Warm-Up Basketballs Teams must supply their own basketballs for warm-up prior to the game beginning and for half-time use. Game balls will not be available for use in warm-up. |
