Congratulations to Chess Players and Mr. Garrison!

Mr. Garrison has been teaching chess to children since 1996.  His teams have won numerous state championships. In 2013, King won two second place team trophies and one third place. Thurston won 4th place in the K-8 championship. Thurston and Lawton tied for second in the K-5 championship, and Clague won 2nd in the K-6 championship.

Mr. Garrison holds the #1 rank of overall game player (out of over 30,000 players) at www.littlegolem.net, an international thinking games website. He is also the top ranked player in the world at the strategy game “Breakthrough”; one of his long-time chess students is ranked #2!

Chess improves critical thinking skills and concentration, encourages students to focus and learn problem solving skills, improves visualization skills and teaches the art of patience.
