Parent/Child Swim Classes

Rec&Ed offers classes that help parents/caregivers and children learn to love the water together. These classes use songs, games, and nursery rhymes to help children relax and explore the water with an adult in a fun and safe environment. Experienced and enthusiastic instructors provide tips on how to hold the children to effectively teach them basic aquatic skills. Instructors will lead 25 minutes of structured activities and will offer 10 minutes of unstructured “free time” at the end of each class. If your child has two caregivers/parents both are welcome to attend the class. Unlike some programs, we do not force anyone to submerge their child. Submersion is not taught at a group level, however, if this is something you would like your child to try please feel free to speak with the instructor regarding this.

Two different classes are offered, depending on the age of the child:

Infant/Tot
Parent/child class for children who are 6 months to 3 years old. This class will help children learn to tolerate and enjoy the water with a caregiver. Adults and children bond with songs and rhymes that help participants feel comfortable in the water.

Preschool
Parent/child class for 3-5 year olds. This class will help children practice basic water adjustment skills, preliminary aquatic skills, and increased independence through the use of games and songs. Children work on skills that will prepare them for participation in instructor-led levels. Emphasis is on building confidence and independence from the parent.

Please Note: These classes require at least one adult to accompany each child in water. Due to the depth of the pools parents/caregivers are required to hold their child at all times to ensure the child’s safety. If your child is not 100% toilet-trained they will need to wear a swim diaper.
