Thurston Champions 2007

Note from Ray,

On Saturday, (2/14/09) the Michigan Chess Association hosted the 27th annual state team chess championships at MSU.  It was the largest ever with 151 teams competing.

I am proud to say that our teams won all three of the championship divisions.

Clague Middle School sent two teams of sixth graders to the K-6 team tournament.  One team took 3rd place and the other team won the championship with a perfect 5-0 match score.

King Elementary won the K-5 championship outright with a 4.5 match score.

Logan Elementary and King Elementary tied for first place in the K-3 championship with 4.5.  King and Logan drew each other in round 4 and King had to beat Thurston in the last round.  This is the first championship that Logan has won.

Altogether, 59 kids, 15 teams, that I coach attended the event.
