Hi all, Happy Spring!
Good news: I was chosen for a residency and exhibition called "Stand in the Place Where You Live" sponsored by the Legacy Land Conservancy. Legacy is celebrating 40 years of preserving natural areas in Washtenaw County. In honor of this anniversary, Chelsea Center for the Arts and Legacy have assigned 16 artists natural areas for the summer. An exhibit is planned for November to showcase the results of our residencies. I started a journal on my blog - you may want to check it out - some nice pictures of spring wildflowers. Go to my blog Silk Road Wandering to see what's blooming. My assigned site is closed to the public; but I have permission to escort my artist buddies and friends. I try to get there once a week, whether permitting - usually Friday mornings.
I am teaching Digital Silk and Sumptuous Scarves this month for Ann Arbor Rec and Ed. Take the link to my website for an exhibit of student work. http://www.silkroadwandering.com
If you happen to be up North, cruis'n the dunes, check out Synchronicity Gallery in Glen Arbor. The gallery is open for the season now. In addition to my entire inventory of new work, there is a delicious variety of media in all price ranges. Enjoy!
I'll be going back to the John C. Campbell Folk School in June to teach 6 - 10 year-olds to cherish the natural environment via art. We will make silk kites again in addition to an exercise inspired by Liz Goodenough's work, "Secret Places of Childhood". Children will use digital cameras to find special places in the woods. The images are then printed lightly on canvas where they will find shapes and spaces to develop into imaginary environments.
In early July, I will volunteer at Camp Alabare near Cleveland. 30 needy families will experience a week of outdoor activities. The camp is sponsored by Holy Family Ministries. In addition to kites and nature photography we will do a silent meditation activity to make silk banners (using a technique I call shaving cream marbling). If you wish to volunteer or contribute to this worthwhile program see Holy Family Alabare Camp's blog
Fondly, Nancy
