Directions for Music Together Lottery

Download and print the lottery form for Music Together. You are helping us tremendously by printing your own copy!
2. Fill out your Summer form and attach all necessary payments. Summer is $78 plus the $40 material fee (total = $118 for your family). IMPORTANT CHANGE: Even if you already own the music, you must pay the $40 fee. We pay a fee to Music Together for every participating family and can no longer absorb this cost. If you use the sliding fee scale, you must successfully apply for a scholarship first. [Applications are found here.] Please make sure your paperwork is filled out correctly with fees attached or we cannot include it in the lottery.
3. We will NOT process your check or credit card until after the drawing on May 15 and only when you are placed into a class.
4. Turn completed forms in to the First Steps office in person or by mail to arrive by Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. Forms will not be accepted after that time.
5. We will not accept forms through email as we do not want to be responsible for getting your form to us. Occasionally emails get missed and we would hate to be the cause of your not getting everything to us in time.
6. Drawing for the lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 after 4 p.m..
7. Each form will be numbered in the order in which it was drawn.
8. If your first choice is filled, I will put your family into the next possible choice in the order you've listed them.
9. You will receive an email confirming you are in a class and stating the day/time and date of your first class.
Tips:
1. As classes fill, I move to people's second, third or fourth choices.
2. The more choices you put down, the more likely it is to get into a class.
3. Do NOT put down a choice you really can't do. You will be very disappointed if we put you into your 2nd choice and it doesn't work for your family.
Waitlisted for a class:
1. You will be waitlisted for your first choice for a class if all classes are filled.
2. We will not process your payment if you are waitlisted.
3. When we have confirmed that all spaces in classes are filled, we will notify families by email who did not get into a class. We will do our best to reach you by the Friday after the lottery, prior to the beginning of registration for our regular session classes.
4. If you have been waitlisted 2 or more times AND never been in a music class, please contact Marj.
I have put a lot of thought into my decision to use a lottery for Music Together classes. When it's first-come, first-serve, people who aren't as quick or as knowledgeable, miss out on trying a Music Together class. While I would prefer to not have families struggle to get into these classes, I'm afraid many feel they're difficult to get into successfully. This is the only way I could think of to be truly fair to all. I'm hopeful that families will continue to enjoy all our other wonderful classes as well as our Music Together classes.
If you want to be assured of a Music Together class, check out Hand in Hand Music in Saline or Robin's Songs in Ann Arbor. These are both excellent Music Together programs.
